From our discussion, I understand that Network tracing would be the expectation which is not available in Instana.
There is no plan for this feature in the next 12 months

    Hello Kurtulus,
I understand from the ZD that customer was expecting to see Host/IP through traces.
Is this a different expectation? Customers can see the host information(IP address) from the host dashboard under Network interfaces. Port value is specific to a service, if the service is not supported, we cannot capture that

    Thanks,
    Mary

    Hi Mike,

I need to add some background information here. This request originated from IMS related feature request because the customer realized that Instana doesn't show any information span/host/IP/port if technology like IMS doesn't support by Instana.

The real question is, will the same problem occur with any other technology?

    - If not, we need to explain how it will work to the customer

    - If yes, we need a way to overcome this problem. The customer knows how Riverbed tackles this problem and demands a similar feature as in this feature request.

    Thank you.

Updating the state on this one, this is the latest response on this from product - this one is currently not under more investigation at this time.

I assume you would like us to collect endpoint / host / ip / span information without support the framework. Regarding host, ip we should already collect those, which you can find in the Host Dashboard. Regarding endpoint / span, we are not able to do that without supporting the framework.

    Hi,

https://www.instana.com/blog/learn-how-to-modernize-how-you-observe-a-monolith-java-app/ this solution doesn't fit for us.The main problem is customer wants to see traces to any target,we missed calls for unspecified technologies. Is it possible to catch calls via TCP on host , we need exact transaction time how many seconds or miliseconds of a call. When the target is unsepecified technology we can't get the time period, with riverbed customer can get all call periods via tcp.

    Regards

I'm not sure what the exact gap is that the customer is trying to do. Suggest to go through this blog and see if this approach can help. https://www.instana.com/blog/learn-how-to-modernize-how-you-observe-a-monolith-java-app/

    To monitor java socket connections.

We do not consider to do that due to the technical reasons, which makes our instrumentation complicated.
