    If the request has changed to method tracing in a Java process, lets change the title, and I can also reference this blog on the topic: https://www.instana.com/blog/learn-how-to-modernize-how-you-observe-a-monolith-java-app/

    Doruk, this seems that you are changing the original request from trying to understand a distributed trace to looking deeply (method level tracing) in to a single Java Process. Henning asked for a detailed information about the use case, could you want through what the customer is trying to do and which technologies are all involved? That will help us understand if this is something we can do today with Instana or if we have a new requirement here.

    Hi,

    I would like to advise experts on two of my customer’s questions. We are migrating the customer’s servers/apps monitoring from Riverbed to Instana. We managed to handle many differences between the two tools but couldn’t find an answer to two questions;

    1. They used to look at the span of methods when there is an issue with the service/app. We already suggest to use java profiling but they didn’t like it because it wasn’t call/trace-based. Do we have an alternative solution with Instana?

    2. They also sometimes use service/method/Queue consumers to analyze a problem. Is there a similar way or alternative to it?

    Thank you.

    This sounds like a classic distributed tracing topic. In case producers and consumers of a queue are instrumented and pass along the required trace headers (as Instana native tracing does), the service dependency map will show all relevant producers and consumers of a specific queue.

    Please provide more detailed information about your setup and the use case. Please describe all involved technologies (producer, MQ, consumer) with detailed runtime and frameworks used. Also the current usage of Instana in the setup.

    Thanks in advance & kind regards
