Agent configuration file should support more alternative solutions to hide clear text passwords than HashiCorp Vault.

Security teams in enterprise customers are not approving passwords to be stored in clear text format in agent configuration yaml file. According to the current documentation of Instana, only solution provided to this issue is HashiCorp Vault (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/instana-observability/current?topic=agent-host-configuration#integration-with-secret-managers). Enterprises are using various protocols and systems for password management. HashiCorp may not be an option. Instana should support built-in mechanism to hide clear text passwords.

    Hi Kursat,

    Dear Customer,
    We thank you so much for submitting an idea and, in doing this, we appreciate your support in improving Instana product.
    Unfortunately this requirement is not currently in our roadmap and will not be for the next 12/18 months.
    If this feature is still a priority for your Instana implementation at that time, please reopen it to bring up to our attention and we will reevaluate for its inclusion.

    Details: Instana will not implement an integrated secret vault within 18 months. The agent can pull secrets from HashiCorp Vault, Kubernetes Secret Manager or process specific environment variables or files.
