Within the area of responsibility for Verizon GTS there are several hundred SNMP objects that need to be tracked the return a STRING value instead of a number or integer. Many of the strings are fixed. e.g. a status code of "active" vs "inactive". NMS needs to contain a UI driven process where the customer can specifiy if a certian string value is returned then assign a specific number value to the indicator's metrics for that values e.g. "active" = 0 and "inactive" = 1. Right now the current explanation of "we only work with values we can graph" is causing notable issues for our customer as the try to move away from in house solutions to SevOne

Comcast asked for this too, and we discussed doing this directly in a DI widget as a possible solution. Either way, we need a solution as we have large customers asking.
