Hi Reni, certainly! Would be a pleasure. Could you send an invite?
Hello Alexander/Christian,
I am looking into gathering more information on this area, for a customization feature I am building.
Would you be interested to have a short chat on that?
Thanks,

IBM Instana
Hello Alexander
Thank you for the request. Currently we have the functionality of suppressing span creation through Headers. If X-INSTANA-L header is present in the a request header(http/messaging), we will suppress span creation for that call and further processing in that application. When the call goes to the downstream application, header need to be sent again for suppressing in the second server

More improvements are in plan in this area. I estimate this might take another year, I will keep you updated
Thanks,

IBM Instana
Currently the Instana agent samples 100% of requests it can see. In a production environment, particularly during holiday, this can put undue strain on the infrastructure of our systems. In order to still have visibility, we would like to turn down the sampling rate. Right now we are forced to turn off certain tracing for services, ie Kafka Streams, in order to mitigate this issue.
