Instrument api calls with identity

We have an api that is exposed to third parties, that api is accessed using a token. We cannot trace the calls b/c there is no way to instrument or start a trace on the server with the identity of the user associated with the token.

We would like to be able to start a trace and add user information and other information to the trace.

We have an api, written in Java and Spring. It provides restful endpoints to our clients. We would like to trace these api calls back to the callers. There is not currently a way to instrument an endpoint on the server side. We cannot control the client, it is an api we make available to our clients.
