Capture custom HTTP response headers

Background and context

A feature we use heavily with Instana is the ability to capture custom HTTP request headers. This gives us a great ability to analyse the data, slice and dice based on filters and groups on headers. A couple of simple examples are to group the traffic based on origin country or IP address, as this information usually is available in headers inserted by the load balancer.

In some cases it would be very useful to be able to filter on custom HTTP response headers as well, especially when integrating with 3rd party API's where response headers are an important part of the API, but also when we use HTTP response headers in our own application as part of the API to the client.

Feature request

Support HTTP Response headers for entry and exist spans. In our case we need this for the following languages.

  • Java/Kotlin

  • Python
