Issue:
While creating events either via the API or from Instana user interface, Instana is not allowing to create the events where entities (referencing in the DFQ) are not yet present in the tenant unit. Below is the error message I got when an event was created and scoped to the OCP_InfraNOde IBM queue.
Entities query <(entity.ibmmq.queue.name:OCP_InfraNode)> is invalid according to the elasticsearch.
A similar error is recieved back from the Instana API calls.
Requested Change:
Instana should issue a warning instead of failing to create that event.
UI Errors:
The DFQ query like `entity.ibmmq.queue.name:OCP_InfraNode` deemed invalid by the elasticsearch with the following errors, "Failed to save: Entities Query <(ibmmqqueuename:OCP_InfraNode)> is invalid according to Elasticsearch."
Also see the screenshots attached.
API Errors:
"Entities Query <(ibmmqqueuename:\\'1,\\'Q280P.280.WL.ERROR.QUEUE\\')> is invalid according to Elasticsearch."]
"Entities Query <(ibmmqqueuename:\\'Q158P.PROD.SA.SAST.REPLY\\')> is invalid according to Elasticsearch."

Issue is no longer reproducible. The functionality described is how Events and Alerts work by design already. Closing idea
Currently checking this as a defect, as DFQs should only be checked for valid syntax, not that entities should exist. Will update according to results.
Investigating with the team how deep dependencies for the entity to exist actually go.
Assuming this works with an AP Smart Alert when the AP filter is referencing non-existing entities, but will check.
If you could provide some direct examples of what entity is not existing yet and what exact Event or Smart Alert needs to be created would help assure we don't miss critical journeys
This Idea is important for a couple of reasons. We are working on tools and migration for ITMv6 to Instana migrations. Second a lot of customers want to setup thresholds before they onboard the production applications. They might even create an Event or Smart Alert in a Dev environment and clone it to production. But, if the creation fails due to the Entity not being found in the DFQ, then they can't do these things.
