Request for New Feature in IBM Instana - Monitoring and Alerting of IBMi Job Status

I would like to propose a new feature for IBM Instana that would significantly enhance its monitoring capabilities for IBMi systems. Currently, there is no direct mechanism to monitor and alert based on the status of jobs running on IBMi environments. This feature would be valuable in environments where job execution is critical, as it would enable proactive monitoring of job status (e.g., completed, running, failed, or pending) and trigger alerts based on predefined thresholds or statuses.

The feature should include:

  1. Real-time Job Status Monitoring: Ability to track IBMi job statuses in real-time, including start time, end time, and current job state.
  2. Configurable Alerts: Customizable alerting mechanisms when jobs fail, exceed a certain runtime, or encounter any predefined conditions.
  3. Historical Job Data: Option to store historical data of job statuses for performance analysis and trend forecasting.

This enhancement would improve system administrators' ability to manage and respond to potential issues within IBMi environments, preventing system downtimes and improving overall efficiency.

I am confident that adding this feature will add significant value to IBM Instana for IBMi users, allowing for better system oversight and reducing the risk of missed job failures or delays.

    This is not on the roadmap for the first half of 2025. It will be reevaluated afterward based on shifting priorities.
