Instana agent to not monitor ALL Kubernetes "cluster" namespaces - ability to monitor only specific namespaces within a single cluster

  • Customer has all environments i.e. dev, uat, prod within the same cluster in Kubernetes.

  • Now since Instana agent has been installed at the cluster level, it has picked up all the included nodes and namespaces

  • This has resulted in increase of no. of licenses used as all environments are part of same cluster.

CUSTOMER REQUIREMENT is to monitor only the production namespace or production nodes within the same cluster.

Hi Arthur.. the functionality in https://bigblue.aha.io/features/INSTANA-1980 is different to what is required in this request.

    Hi,

when deploying Instana Agent into a cluster, you can pass agent.pod.affinity to either the Operator or Helm chart to influence pod assignments in the cluster. Affinities are described here.

This will limit the amount of Agents running in the cluster, and only monitor workloads running on the assigned nodes.

General Kubernetes monitoring is not affected by this, still all Kubernetes control plane metrics (and nodes) will show up in the Kubernetes section of Instana. For nodes without an agent running, no underlying host, container or process metrics will be available.

    Best regards
