Instana should natively support tracing of Microsoft AKKA framework

We have a large deal at Kaizen Gaming in Greece that uses AKKA and the competition uses it.

Kaizen is a gaming company expanding rapidly, now covering 12 countries in Europe and US and planning to expand in Asia in 2023. They have 1.500 employees and more than 1.5M online customers. They recently invested in Red Hat (https://www.redhat.com/en/resources/kaizen-gaming-case-study) and containerized their apps to handle scalability issues. They’re infra consists of around 12.000+ VMs/OpenShift nodes and are increasing around 10%-15% YoY.

We have presented Instana as an end-to-end, second-granularity solution to replace their existing mesh of five open source apps they us for Observability. Their CTO has approved it and pass it on to procurement, where we discussed pricing and everything and got the approval from the Board of Directors in the end of May. Since mid-June we’re in a PoC which if it proves successful the purchase will automatically be triggered.

In the PoC we have come across three compatibility issues which have stopped us from moving further and which unfortunately are supported by some of our key competitors. Namely, an in order of significance we don’t support:

The Orleans framework of .net (which is a framework where all their monetary transactions pass through) – aha opened: https://ideas.ibm.com/ideas/INSTANA-I-1586

The latest versions of RabbitMQ (we have stopped support on v5.0.1. and Kaizen uses 6.2.4) – aha opened:https://ideas.ibm.com/ideas/INSTANA-I-1577

The AKKA framework of .net, which together with Orleans is used in are than 50% of their code – aha opened:

We have made a mapping with the competition and unfortunately we’re lacking all three features compared to most of them.
