Hi Henning, thank you!
Hi Oleg, got it.
Actually the Agent uses pax-url-aether bundle to resolve and download Maven artefacts. It can be configured in the Agent's config file
etc/org.ops4j.pax.url.mvn.cfg
.Here is a set of options the customer can use: https://github.com/apache/karaf/blob/main/assemblies/features/base/src/main/resources/resources/etc/org.ops4j.pax.url.mvn.cfg#L124-L145
We will however not provide additional support for those options.
In addition, we will raise the timeout for the Agent waiting on maven artefacts to be installed and activated to 10 mins (5 mins currently). This will be part of the next Agent release (Agent bundle agent-1.1.718).
I hope this helps.
Best
Henning
Dear Henning,
because they configured local repository as proxy and do not want to download entire repository of many terrabytes and keep it up to date every day. When their agent checks for new version local mirror proxies request to Instana repository which returns that the new version is available. Then the agent downloads it and waits for couple seconds (or so) to download the new file. As far as I understand the new file is being downloaded by mirror repository first and after that it will be available for the agent. For some reason the file is not downloaded immediately and here is the nature of the configurable delay request.
I know that Amazon CloudFront is in Romania since 2010 and should reduce the time to download the file, but I do not know why it is not helping customer, may be most of the time they're first who download it or it is a last mile issue or security procedures, anyway, they already attempted to reduce network issues using air-gapped deployment and the approach still has some issues.
Would you please consider planning the feature?
Thank you.
Dear Customer,
We thank you so much for submitting an idea and, in doing this, we appreciate your support in improving Instana product.
Unfortunately this requirement is not currently in our roadmap and will not be for the next 12/18 months.
If this feature is still a priority for your Instana implementation at that time, please reopen it to bring up to our attention and we will reevaluate for its inclusion.
I fail to understand why an air-gapped system needs to wait on an internet connection. A mirrored maven repo for air-gapped should be in the same local network. Waiting "up to several minutes" seems to be some other underlying issue which should not be handled by the Agent.
Thank you & best regards
Henning Treu - Instana Product Manager
