Kong API Tracing

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

In Instana, Kong API gateway monitoring is limited in basic metrics moniotring but not support for tracing. However, from our Instana In Instana, the current monitoring capabilities for Kong API Gateway are limited to basic metrics and do not support tracing. However, the Instana website (https://www.ibm.com/products/instana/api-monitoring) states that “Instana automatically detects API integration points, monitors API performance, and traces API calls across different service layers.”

In the case of Kong API, one of our clients is migrating from competitors to Instana. During the deployment, they discovered that Instana does not support tracing for Kong API—a limitation that was unexpected when compared to competitor tools. For this client, Kong API is a critical service, making tracing capabilities essential to meet their operational needs.

Beyond this specific client, Kong API Gateway is one of the most popular API gateways in the industry. Adding tracing support for Kong API would not only address existing client requirements but also attract potential clients who rely on Kong API Gateway for their operations.
