Improving Kubernetes Alerting

Status quo

Built-in event ("Kubernetes Pod condition status") for when a Kubernetes pod reports 'Not Ready' state for more than one minute.

Desired

  • Ability to get alerted when pods created within last 30 minutes reports 'Not Ready' state for more than 1 minute.

  • Ability to include pod label in alert message

  • Ability to send only 'error' events but not 'resolved' events (as the issue may get marked as 'resolved' even when pod status is 'error')

  • Ability to limit alerts to just once per pod

Hi Sivasundar! It seems like majority of your desired use cases can be solved using Smart Alerts.

Can you check this out and let me know if it is not what you're looking for?

As a short example, see the attached screenshots. I've selected to alert on a set of Pods based on their Ready state. I'm able to select an evaluation window for the metric, set a threshold, and include specific labels for my pod as part of the alert. I can also select the number of consecutive metric violations. Smart Alerts is currently in Public Preview.
